Authorities in the Canary Islands have begun evacuating passengers and crew members from a ship reportedly affected by a suspected hantavirus outbreak.

According to Channels Television, emergency response officials and medical personnel were deployed to the scene as precautionary measures intensified around the vessel following fears of possible exposure to the virus.

Health officials wearing protective gear were seen overseeing the evacuation process as emergency teams moved individuals from the vessel to safety. Local authorities are said to be monitoring the situation closely to prevent further health risks.

Hantavirus is a rare but serious disease commonly linked to contact with infected rodents. Symptoms can include fever, fatigue, dizziness, and breathing difficulties.

Officials have not yet confirmed the number of possible infections onboard, but investigations and medical screenings are ongoing. Emergency response teams have also intensified safety measures around the affected area.

Residents and travellers in the region have been advised to remain calm while health authorities continue monitoring the situation.
