The Borno State Police have arrested 12 young men. They were arrested for stealing phones from people in different parts of Maiduguri.

Police spokesman ASP Nahum Daso said the arrests happened between Monday and Wednesday this week. The suspects were caught in three areas: Post Office area, Gamboru area, and Baga Road.

The police found many things with the suspects. They found 18 stolen mobile phones. They also found knives and small charms. The suspects used these to scare people and take their phones.

ASP Daso said, “We will take all 12 suspects to court very soon. They will face the law for their crime.”

He also gave advice to people in Maiduguri. He said people should not use their phones when walking on the road at night. He said phone snatchers look for people who are not careful. He asked everyone to call the police if they see anyone acting strange.

In the last few months, many people in Maiduguri have lost their phones. Most of the thefts happen in the evening. The thieves often use motorcycles to escape quickly.

The police said they will put more officers on the roads, especially at night. They also want to work with community leaders to find other phone snatchers who are still free.

ASP Daso said the police will not allow criminals to make the city unsafe. He asked parents to talk to their children and warn them to stay away from crime.
