The 2027 gubernatorial race in Borno State took a new turn today as Engr. Mustapha Gubio officially picked up his nomination form at the party secretariat in Maiduguri.

The aspirant arrived amid fanfare, escorted by hundreds of supporters, youth groups, and political well-wishers who sang solidarity songs and carried banners bearing his picture. The crowd caused a brief traffic hold-up along the secretariat road, showing strong grassroots backing as he stepped into the race.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after collecting the form, Engr. Gubio thanked his supporters and promised to run an issue-based campaign.

“I am not here for politics as usual. I’m here to bring real development, security, and jobs for our people. Borno deserves a leader who listens,” Gubio said.

Party officials confirmed that Gubio fulfilled all requirements before obtaining the form, making him one of the early aspirants to formally declare interest in the 2027 election.

A supporter, Hajiya Amina Bukar, said, “We followed him because we believe in his vision. He is a man of the people and has helped many youths.”

Political analysts say Gubio’s early move signals serious intent and could reshape alliances ahead of the party primaries scheduled for later this year.

Engr. Gubio is a businessman and philanthropist known for community projects in Maiduguri and southern Borno.
