On April 8, 2026, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alongside other leaders of the Allied Democratic Congress (ADC), staged a peaceful protest over what they described as partisanship within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a post on his Instagram page, Atiku said:
“Myself and other leaders of the ADC are peacefully protesting against the partisanship of the electoral umpire. Our patriotic stance is aimed at safeguarding our democracy and preventing the enthronement of dictatorship.”
The ADC’s demonstration comes amid growing public debates about the credibility and impartiality of INEC as the country approaches its next elections. Atiku urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, engaged, and committed to democratic principles, stressing that the protest is a call for fairness and accountability in the electoral process.

Nigeria's democracy for the first time is being tested.
